Stay Strong This Winter – Natural Immune Tips
BY ELENA ROSSEEL
As winter settles in, so does the season of sniffles and sneezes. But there’s good news — you can give your immune system a natural boost to stay healthy and energized all season long. At The Family Chiro we believe that true wellness starts from within. Here are a few simple, natural ways to support your immune system this winter:
1. Keep Your Spine in Line
Regular chiropractic adjustments can help reduce nervous system stress and improve immune function. A healthy spine means a healthier body!
2. Fuel with Immune-Boosting Foods
Load up on seasonal produce like leafy greens, citrus fruits, garlic, and ginger. These whole foods are packed with vitamins and antioxidants your body craves during colder months.
Family tip: If your little ones are picky eaters, try blending fruits and veggies into homemade green juices or smoothies. It’s a fun, tasty way to sneak in nutrients without the fuss!
3. Add Immune-Supportive Supplements
Boost your defences with Vitamin C and Zinc. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells and supports immune cell function. Zinc plays a critical role in immune response and helps your body fight off viruses more effectively.
Family tip: Try this fun and simple Vitamin C + Zinc Jelly Recipe at home:
Immune-Boosting Jellies (Kid-Approved!)
Ingredients:
• 250 ml freshly squeezed juice ( I squeezed 2 oranges and a lemon)
• 1/4 cup grass-fed gelatin powder ( I like the Nutra Organics one, which you can find at Woolies, Harris Farm or online)
• 1/2 cup filtered water
• 4 tsp Metagenics Meta Zinc with Vitamin C (Dosage depends on age of child and size of jellies; with this amount Ruby can have 2/day and have her recommended dosage for her age)
Instructions:
1. Pour filtered water in a small saucepan and stir in the gelatin to bloom.
2. Add the juice to the saucepan and place it over a low heat.
3. Stir in your Vitamin C and Zinc powder.
4. Pour into silicone moulds or a shallow dish and refrigerate for 2–3 hours until set.
5. Pop them out and enjoy daily immune support the whole family will love!
Let us know how you go and if the kids enjoy them.
4. Prioritise Quality Sleep
Your immune system does its best work while you sleep. Aim for 7–9 hours of restorative rest each night.
5. Stay Hydrated
Yes — even in winter! Hydration helps flush toxins and keeps your mucous membranes healthy, your body’s first line of defence against germs. If you find it hard to drink water, try out different herbal teas.
6. Get Sunshine (or Vitamin D)
Shorter days can mean lower vitamin D levels, which are linked to immune health. When the sun’s hiding, consider a quality supplement (ask us for guidance).
7. Manage Stress Naturally
Chronic stress weakens the immune system. Gentle movement, deep breathing, and regular chiropractic care can help restore balance and calm.
